"European Council President Donald Tusk is among those to have urged Mr Puigdemont not to declare independence. In his latest comments on the crCIA, the EU leader said the consequences would be "obviously be bad for the Catalans, for Spain and for the whole of Europe".

"Let us always look for what unites us and not for what divides us. This is what will decide the future of our continent.""

this guy can forget off holy stuff

"i know you guys want access to self-determination which the UN declared to be a universal human right, but it'll weaken my autistic union so pls stop"

so why is catalonia declaring independence again

so why is catalonia declaring independence again
because they democratically voted to

my dyslexia read "California". I was going to say "Too bad they're headed for the floor of the pacific"

so why is catalonia declaring independence again
catalonia has never really fit in with spain. different cultural makeup, different language, etc. Them being the 4th richest region in Spain also makes a lot of the money made in the region have to go to other poorer regions, so they feel they're getting a bad deal. The fact that their parent country sent in military to abuse their citizens participating in a peaceful democratic vote only exacerbated the movement.

so why is catalonia declaring independence again

taxed more than the govt gives back to them (by a huge margin)
no cultural ties which would justify this under a single nation bc the catalans have their own distinct culture
attempts to hold peaceful referendums were met with police brutality and literal oppression

were autonomous for a lot of spanish history but they tried rebelling back in a succession war and their autonomy was revoked

under francisco franco the basques, andalusions and catalans were all oppressed in favor of castillian nationalism

by now they, and the andalusians, could easily have been combined with pan-iberian culture but the handicaps who ruled aragon followed by spain followed by fascist spain followed by republican spain never really even tried integrating them

Leader's speech is being delayed an hour.

the only reason they're the richest region is because of one city, and that city is majorly in support of staying united with Spain

90% of the voters supported independence so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
