dumb rant: shadman

Verification:
Currently, such depictions are in a legal grey area due to parts of the PROTECT Act being ruled unconstitutional on a federal level; however, laws regulating lolicon and shotacon differ between states; several states have laws that explicitly prohibit cartoon research and similar depictions (such as video games in the state of New Jersey), while others usually have only vague laws on such content; in some states, such as California, such depictions specifically do not fall under state child research laws,[70] while the state of Utah explicitly bans it.[71]
otto-san:
the problem with legislating loli (or at least enforcing whatever laws you make) is that with drawn research it's all ambiguous. you can go with the artist's word and suddenly everything is just ageplay and they're all actually 18 when you get into court, or you can go with what you think looks like a kid and now you're down a rabbithole of subjective, fuzzy interpretation of the same law.

the best solution is to leave the government's mitts off of art and just let people make gross art with lines and pixels since it's technically a completely victimless crime. i don't want to see a toddler getting forgeted, but i also don't want to worry about elected or appointed political figures being responsible for determining whether i should be put in jail for drawing kanna from dragon maid innocently standing next to a comically large snake.

the cool thing is that we can all mostly agree that loli is snugly in the moral red zone without the government needing to back us up on that, right
Trogtor:
research in general should be illegal

Yeah because I've certainly stated in this entire situation that I condone the actual act of child research. The only thing I've done here is defend an artist's right to draw things legally within the scope of the law. Its about as objective as it gets.
