seems like you'll be able to run really any distro, then.
currently, my favorite distribution is manjaro - it's pretty much arch linux but really nicely customized and has some good packages and stuff installed. i personally recommend the xfce version, although versions for DE's such as GNOME do exist.

Seriously considering switching my defunct Apricity OS installation over to this

honestly im glad they switched, unity had its fair share of issues.
