how to free up hard drive space on tiny ssd

Author Topic: how to free up hard drive space on tiny ssd  (Read 872 times)

god damn i am constantly hovering around 2-3 gb left on my main ssd and it's annoying as hell because i cant install anything on it.

install.esd takes up 4 gigs, pagefile.sys takes up 8 gigs wtf. so much stuff. when i open the drive in windirstat it's just a bunch of needed huge ass files and then a bunch of tiny ones wtff

what else do u have installed on it

Windows itself takes up around 30gb even with un-needed stuff gone

How large is your SSD and what games do you have installed? 99.99% sure, you have a low capacity SSD and have a forgetton of large games installed.

SpaceSniffer is a pretty good utility for finding large files

if you really need to you can resise the pagefile to 2-4gb since it’s just fallback RAM for Windows and it’s bad to keep it on an SSD anyway, but you should really weigh in your other options first. get rid of anything unnecessary that isn’t system related

>hard drive space
>on my SSD

Not sure what system you are running because my Windows 10 Home only took around 8GB of my SSD.

There should be a clean application that Windows has by default under administration tools in control panel to clean up your disk.

be sure to keep these if u have a surface like me or ur gonna run into some problems

pagefile.sys takes up 8 gigs
turn that off or put it on a non-ssd
having pagefile.sys on my ssd killed it

I have a 256GB ssd, and 100GB are missing now
my files are using up 140GB, another partition is about 8GB, 100+GB is missing
I'm guessing it's from memory leaks in drivers causing my RAM to max out, use the page file, making there be too many writes to the ssd and wearing it out

Delete your loli research folder

Pagefile should be turned off in the system settings instead of just deleting it. Windows will automatically create a new pagefile if it is enabled in the settings. You can also change the size of said pagefile

Pagefile HDDs, not SSDs.

turn that off or put it on a non-ssd
having pagefile.sys on my ssd killed it
