i dunno what you're talking about. star wars is and always was a corporate product designed to make money, just like basically every movie that ends up in theaters.

he wanted to make money. because he's a director and its his job. maybe he likes his job a lot and wants to make a legitimately good piece of art, but he can't keep doing that if his movie makes no money.
