you mean the almost regular conventional wars that wipe up millions and weaken large countries to almost nothing? yeah nah forget that, I'm glad we got past that stuff in ww2

that's still not a proxy war, why do you keep thinking that? it's just really high tension between the two countries considering there's nothing else except the rare spats that are directly between the military ships and planes of both countries
also the japanese never surrendered that easily, at least not all of them in the high command not to mention the brainwashed population. the atomic bomb was necessary
