I don't deny that Stalin was a communist, nor am I denying his crimes against humanity. I've seen people on the left try to define Stalin as right-wing or fascist, which is stupid. However, the ideologies of Stalin and Mao are a subset of communism, not the entirety of it. I would be willing to bet that most modern communists are of the more libertarian bent, and express disdain towards communist dictators. Even during the Cold War, many Western European communists were anti-Soviet. Lenin, Stalin, and Mao were indeed communists, but they don't define communism. |
