"we need someone to basically lose money on a free site"

I think Youtube is becoming a platform for successful people to promote their product on, for example the rise of Vevo and music artists putting their music on youtube just to make more money. This ultimately defeats the purpose of original created content and singles out those that invest time into youtube creating content that they spend hours of time into. Just go onto the trending page now and you'll just see music, celebrity talk shows or some news drama involving Donald Annoying Orange which is defeating the purpose of Youtube but this won't change because all youtube wants is money.

This isn't YouTube anymore, this is a clusterforget of celebrities just making money off of it. There's nothing we can do unfortunately, either wait until they go bankrupt or they get involved with a scandal that the FBI and government will investigate. What a shame

this article from vid.me explains exactly why trying to make a new video platform is forgeten impossible: https://medium.com/vidme/goodbye-for-now-120b40becafa

stating the obvious here but somehow youtube has managed to forget up every single contraversial issue they’ve been presented with. It’s like the Cleveland browns this year, it’s so much harder to go winless than undefeated

I see a lot of people posting about the 10 cents they'd be losing on revenue but it's definitely a lot deeper than that.
If you're not making enough money, well, start a Patreon. That part doesn't change. People were already doing this.

The real issue is that no one's going to find you. If you're not a partner, they have no reason to promote you. Your content is never going to be recommended. And your video will likely show up lower on search results. Because chances are, they're more likely to show things that have been known to make them more money. Because remember, the ads are what makes Youtube itself the money.

So, going on from here? It looks like the small content creators need to rely on their own tools, promoting their own work across various sites. That's probably how people got big in the first place, anyway.
