Generally they're stuff, but this HOA is pretty decent. They don't have any stupid crazy rules, all they care about is that your yard actually looks decent. Not like five star yard standards, just no weeds or insanely long grass.

what exactly do they do if you don't

*chink* you don't wanna know

$333 USD for a 40m2 apartment with a full bathroom (bidet, toilet, sink, and bathtub), 16m2 deck with a grill, roofed parking spot, livingroom, one bedroom, one kitchen, and an in-wall closet. The place is enrolled in the neighborhood watch program and it's 5km away from the city, 60km away from the federal capital.

$17 for electricity, $29 for water, $33 for gas. All passed to USD
$8 for municipal tax and $10 for neighborhood watch. It's also 4km away from my faculty so I go biking

people who don't do a 100% down payment are stupid

You'll get a fee. They give a warning first though.

Here's the way I look at people who hate HOA's. If you don't like them, don't live in an HOA community. It's entirely your right to live someplace where people are allowed to have their house and yard look like a stuffhole. My wife and I however prefer to have our community look like a good place to live and enjoy the scenery without someones three foot tall grass poking through a fence.

Considering we live up against mountains, the availability to enjoy our surroundings is very worth doing what you should do anyway with your yard.

the rent would probably be better in the bay area if somebody finally decided that draining the loving marshes everywhere would be a good idea

unfortunately, HOAs are becoming more and more common, making it harder for people who dislike them to avoid them. generally, if you live in a decent non HOA neighborhood, people tend to maintain their lawns pretty well: my dad despises HOAs, yet he keeps our trees and shrubs neatly pruned, our grass stays cut, and he keeps the edges of the lawn neat. about half of the neighborhood meticulously cares for their lawn and spends about every day on it, and those who don't go through that kind of effort at least keep their grass cut. even the lots that aren't owned by anyone have regularly cut grass because the city takes care of it.

just because it's not an HOA neighborhood doesn't automatically make it a stuffhole

$1300 or so for a single in a 2br/1ba apartment. ~$3000 total rent +utilities
bay area is pretty lit

SF Bay area ridiculousness reporting in. $1400/month 1br1b, cheapest in the area aside from shared living spaces obviously. Pretty nice area though so it's not a big surprise.
lmao right there with ya

A relatively normal house goes for arround 700-800/month here

$1510/mo + water/electricity (1b1b)
Orange County, CA

Our average in monthly expenses is $2,400, with internet, insurance, food, etc. piled on.
