npc stands for non playable character
technically everyone is an npc except yourself due to the nature of not being able to swap bodies
That's also false because in multiplayer games other players are not considered to be "NPCs" because a player is still playing that character.
SO there can be other players in the world but they are surrounded by soulless walking "NPCs" that have a hive-mind like mentality.
It's not surprising. We've seen people on these forums follow pop-culture trends like zombies.
