it seems you are incredibly out of the loop. americans saying they are a different nationality while they have never in their life set foot in said country or even out of their stuffty state is incredibly common and despised by any actual person living in the mentioned country.
unless you can show me vacation photos of you visiting your dutch family, or you eating a frikandellebroodje, im simply believing this is the case, and it definitely isn't far fetched. The Netherlands and Germany are incredibly common targets for this bullstufftery.

for all I know being dutch could be like being a jew in germany during the holocaust. but I'm not that little dutch, around 80% if I can remember correctly. but my cousin's mom does the same thing. she's like 1% native american and takes it as far as she can.
