Fortnite wasn't even nominated for game of the year, the game of the year nominees are games that are actually from this year

No Man's Sky and Overwatch got nominated for categories like Fortnite did and those are from 2016, non-game of the year nominees probably just have to be recent (still not a decade old) to be considered for nomination
