Letterbox or Widescreen movies/videos/TV

I never got this but apparently some people prefer one or the other. Which one do you guys prefer, and tell me why?

Widescreen (totally not because my computer is widescreen) because it looks more like my TV and has those epic cinematic bars 24/7 while watching YouTube, luckily all source games and most the other games I own support widescreen.
