I remember thinking about this idea, do something like Super Blockland Bros. For the N64. Make the graphics as similar as possible to the original Super Smash Bros. You can make your own characters though. I guarantee you there will be some people who will like it. This is just an idea and there may be better concepts. Just my creative idea.
