So redeeming a steam copy from an original key is still indefinitely disabled?

It would seem so.  I'm waiting for the same thing.  Haven't been able to use BL in weeks now since I never linked it with Steam.

baddy better fix the other issues such as (mis), freezing on datablocks, removal of enabling and disabling downloading stuff (personal thing but god damn i hate it when i gotta tell people to enable stuff and restart their game, they almost never do it)
there is still hope

Things are taking a bit longer than I expected due to some questionable functionality of the steam API and forgetting a few things.  I'm closing in on everything working, though.

(mis)

?

freezing on datablocks

I don't have a repro case for this.  I've only had it happen occasionally while running my CDN bot.

removal of enabling and disabling downloading stuff (personal thing but god damn i hate it when i gotta tell people to enable stuff and restart their game, they almost never do it)

So you want to be able to force people to spend 3 hours downloading hundreds of unnecessary music files from you at near dial-up speeds?  No thanks.  Everything that is on the CDN is downloaded regardless of user settings, though.  I could allow user uploads to the CDN but that would probably be abused immediately.

downloading [...] at near dial-up speeds?
is there no way to make the download speed not 1 byte per second

the (Mis) error occurs sometimes when playertypes are downloaded. the cause is explored here: https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=317828.msg9824158#msg9824158

for whatever reason only the first 3 characters of the true error are kept, so players are kicked from servers with a message box that says (Mis)

no i want to force people to download textures so they can see prints, custom centerprint bitmaps, and textures on important items such as the playing cards mod for example. nothing else actually matters besides the textures from an actual playability standpoint.

how in the world will I hear the radical research music on casino royale now?!!?

I've only noticed freezing on datablocks being a thing related to add-ons, specifically in my case blockland glass. It nearly prevented me from joining any server including my own until it was removed.

I don't think forcing them to download textures is really necessary. I'm pretty sure download textures is enabled by default though, so unless someone intentionally disables it there shouldn't be an issue. I'm not in all disagreement however, because I can see how this would impact a specific game mode. You could almost say the same thing about shadows. An option to force enable shadows to clients on the server if they are capable of handling them would be useful for game modes that rely on them such as solar apoc or haunted servers etc

It would be cool if faces and decals could be seen by other players if the download textures option is enabled as well, or that could even be a separate option. We would finally be able to see user-made faces and decals without needing the same add-on

no downloads are enabled by default

tbh feel like the (mis) error would be fixed with the datablock loading fix (assuming no network buffers are allowed to overflow) but that itself might introduce some other bugs

How do things end up on the CDN?

CDN bot joining your server and downloading them, afaik.

finally im part of bl history

Badspot, i found an old guide about adding in a 'setImageState' input for the ShapeBaseImage, how possible would it be to slap that into Blockland while you're figuring out this key situation?

This would be rather cool.

I agree with Brighter Dark here, I know I have suggested it in the past and you have disagreed with me in the past Badspot but it's 2020 I refuse to believe the majority of users do not have a modern internet connection with fast download speeds and quite frankly I think now would be a good time to enable "Download Sounds" by default (perhaps the others but I consider this to be the most important).

You claimed it was to prevent putting new users off by having a long waiting time to join which was fair at the time but now I don't see how it could really take any longer since almost everybody has a decent internet connection.

Aren't new users going to be more frustrated when they join servers and think they are boring because they cannot hear (or see?) certain assets which are vital to the grand experience of the server? Unless I am missing something? can the download speed physically not go any faster is that an engine limit?

Otherwise it seems a bit obsolete to have them disabled by default, practically all other games have downloads enabled by default (Source engine games, gmod/tf2/etc...) which make for an easy and fun user experience without having to constantly remind people "don't forget to turn on download sounds!!!" it should really be the other way around now, users may turn them off if they deem it necessary (I don't know who actually would do this). Yet far more noobs probably don't even realise the option is there and are missing out.

If it really is an engine limit then I can sort of understand.
