i dont think 1984 is very relevant in the slightest. the american government doesn’t even govern how could it possibly be excessive authority

it's right on that tipping point.

most of the excessive authority in 1984 is given to it's government by the fact that if you even think about stepping out of line your coworker, friend or family member will likely rat you out to big brother without a second thought.

And social media didn't even exist at the time.

we’re much more brave new world than 1984, given how the media works and how willing most people are to just ignore anything of real impact and blind themselves to the diversity and complexity of the world
