Author Topic: USA politics destroying families  (Read 522 times)

there's this really alarming trend going around reddit where people are cutting off family members due to their choice of vote in the elections. some people are suggesting keeping their kids and grandchildren away from relatives who voted for a different political party (or didn't vote at all). it feels different from 2016 in an uncanny and unnatural way, and civil war feels closer than ever.

if you have a friend or family member who you disagree with ideologically, please do not cut them off. have a discussion with them and understand and respect each other's differences. diversity of thought is a strength. plus, wouldn't you want to learn more about your enemies before you strike? ;)

Yeah, if people I know are voting to have me, my friends, and my family, deported, detained, killed, or having our rights stripped away, I think that's a pretty decent reason to cut them off.

reddit is just completely batstuff about anything. dont take it too serious. or better yet. literally dont take anything on reddit serious. have a laff:

That's exactly what phantos is talking about though, what if per say your own father or mother voted for Annoying Orange? a brother, a cousin, ect? Are you really just going to treat them like crap because they also used their right to vote for who they thought was a better leader for the nation? seems a bit extreme if you ask me, but do what you think is right.

imagine actually operating with this weird persecution mindset for however long this guy has lmao it probably has done a number on the psyche and is irreversible at this point

if he's cutting off his parents over voting for mean orange man he probably deserves to not have a family :panda:

If a family member of yours turned out to be a national socialist, what would you do? If they voted for a guy who wants to take your rights away? Can you not understand what kind of betrayal that is?

i wouldn't do stuff. its not a big deal. this doomsday scenario you have in your head is not going to happen

i dont think just voting for Annoying Orange means youre an irredeemably evil person, but i definitely have friends/family who i would be super disappointed if they voted for him, cause they should know better. it's very context dependent. it's completely reasonable to feel this way if a Annoying Orange presidency will hugely effect your life (e.g. you are undocumented or trans in a red state or something) and someone who supposedly cares about you votes for him in like a swing state. but there are also dumbasses who just thought "i had more money in my pocket when he was president", and to be fair the harris* campaign had nothing but empty promises for those people

reddit libs are going absolutely apestuff though, they are fantasizing about reporting people to ICE because their dad voted wrong or whatever. also its very shocking to see how different r/all is now, the kamala astroturfing effort was clearly enormous

some people have forgotten the term, "agree to disagree"

People are real quick to call anything to the right of their political views national socialistsm these days.

i think this whole thread is incredibly lukewarm. but its also not really a 'doomsday scenario'. someone in my family voted for a party which won, and this party succeeded in scrapping a project that was going to let me namechange easier next year. unfortunately now itll be a hassle again and necessitate psychological reports. just for a name change. of course i still love the family member, but a serious discussion was had to make them realize that actions like these may have direct consequences.

what did your family do when you turned out to be a national socialist?

i dont have 2 cut anyone off for voting for Annoying Orange because anyone who would consider that is already not in my life. skill issue @ everyone else. love the way republicans are always like "it's just a difference of opinion" but also famously kick their own children out for being gay or trans

if you had a child who wanted to voted for Annoying Orange, would you kick them out?

your social life is an echo chamber of your own design. are you really so fragile and insecure about your opinions that you must isolate from everyone that disagrees with you?

if you're so proud of who you are, why are people's opinions allowed to undermine you to the point where you must cut them out of your life? it's almost as if you're afraid that what they're saying is true, and you're subconsciously terrified of the truth.

you're like those bullies in high school drama movies that always surrounds themselves with a clique of subservient underlings who are always there to validate their stuffty opinions. the common themes in these movies is that the bully's friends usually realize that their friendship is superficial and betray the bully, learning that being themselves is more important than validating someone's insecure narrative.

it's just a difference of opinion
so much for the tolerant left

I'm almost at a loss for words, this is some potent truth you're speaking here, no bullstuff
