Author Topic: Video Card: Which2Get?  (Read 1656 times)

I have a video card that was state of the art two years ago.

Problem is, that was two years ago.

It seems to be wearing out, because alot of graphical applications don't seem to work.

Which should I get?

Current:

ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series

GeForce 8800?
              9600?
              9800?

Get GeForce :D
But not Intel >_>
Intel cannot play Rakion properly, therefore it sucks. >:D

i dunno crap about ATI
but as for nvidia, any 8 or 9 series with 512 memory, it really don't matter what ones. go by price and not power, they will all give you highest settings.

HOWEVER
if your playing on a screen bigger then 19inches, and require highest resolution use, then you will need to grab one of them 512+ that also clocks well. (core >= 1000mhz, and shader >= 400mhz)

im planning on getting a 8800GT when i can, in 2009.

I got an 8600 GT a month ago, only problem is that I'm underpowering it :(

Other than that, running Blockland at 16x AA is fun :D

I don't think you told us whether you have an AGP or PCIE slot. We kinda need to know that.

If you only have AGP, it may be time to upgrade your motherboard.

If you have PCIE, the I recommend the 8800GT. I <3 mine

I'm planning to get a 9800GTX at christmas.

Sorry for the minibump, but how would I check that?

you either know it :P
or physically look into your case and look at your motherboard.

White one is PCI (med length) usually always white

brown one is AGP (small one) usually always brown

orange and Blue ones are PCI-Express (longer ones) colors differ from comp to comp, but most times the colorful ones
all the best modern video cards use PCI-E
most best buy/dells-gateways-emachines premade computers wont have mainboards that have PCI-e's unless it was a high priced one.

You don't need to stay with nvidia if you don't need two cards. This one is really good for the price. It also has a non-stock cooler which is good, because they suck for this model.

Is still a great card for the price.

Aye. SLI (and perhaps even Crossfire) aren't really worth it. You typically only get about 40% of the performance out of the second card so you are throwing quite a bit of money away.
