Boot into safe mode by tapping F8 when the computer boots up. If successful, it'll give you a choice menu after the BIOS boot. There's safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt and hell load more stuff.
Safe mode with networking is safe mode that lets you go on internet. Try that, then system restore.
