You can't disable 4-gear cpu switching.

The dynamic energy saver I could care less about, it's the 4-gear cpu thing that sucks.

Where the hell are you getting this "4-gear cpu switching" thing from? I've searched GIGABYTE's site and I can't see it mentioned anywhere.

Also, what motherboard do you have?

Answer my question please? :D :cookieMonster:

I have an EP43-DS3L. If you actually read the motherboard page you suggested, it says it has "The board has dynamic 4 gear power switching. As your system needs more power it gets it and when the power load goes down, so does the supplied power. This lets you have power when you need it, and save energy and money when you don't."
It's total bullstuff because you don't save any money, and power plants are still burning fuel anyway.

It does have the DualBIOS though, which is sweet.

Doesn't seem like a negative to me. It shouldn't be affecting your computer usage at all. It just runs in the background and when the computer is idle it switches to a lower level of power usage. Also, regardless of whether the lines are powered, you are still being metered by your usage so using less saves you money.

Sounds to me like you're just pissed that something is slowing down your computer and are too quick to blame the first thing you find.

Anyway, you can easily disable the CPU gearing..it is a part of the Dynamic Energy Saver. Just disable that. Instructions on how to do that are on pages 73-74 of your manual.

Hey look, page 73-74 doesn't say anything about disabling it, only EasyTune and what stuff it does.

Yes, I've checked all around BIOS and nothing about disabling integrated peripherals.

I must be looking at a different manual then. Same rules apply.

I believe a disk should have come with the motherboard, put it in and run the DES program. Then just hit the big button to disable it. That should do it.

I turned it off, yes totally off, but it still does 4-gear. Simply right click My Computer, click properties and you can still see the other core frequency going up and down.

Have you considered that it may be caused by EIST?

Are you actually under load?

You do realize Intel CPUs will lower their multiplier when no under load right?

*RW beat me*

By the way, before you start diverting your rage at Intel, just be aware that AMD has an almost identical system built directly into it's chipsets.

Both can be disabled in the BIOS, but both are great features. Dynamically changing the performance of the processor under different loads not only reduces power usage, it increases the life of the components.

Fleh, I guess your right.

My mistake, then, carry on.

On topic please?
Thanks.
Now, which motherboard should i use.
And does the case i'm looking at have disk drives built in?

No case has hard drives built in.

:D I meant like DVD-drive
