Author Topic: Earth Hour (I'll give it 15 minutes)  (Read 6910 times)

We actually did this when we were staying with some friends down in Sydney, Australia - We were in a house overlooking the harbour and pretty much every house I could see around the surrounding valley area had their lights off, even though it did so little to help the environment it was fun.

Pfft, the best place to see the stars in on top of a mountain like Mt. Washington.

Or in Caribou, Maine, there's so few lights that you can actually see the Trans-Atlantic flights flying by.

Man, why did you have to go and make this about the North Americans? Twenty dollars says you're from a European country, maybe France, or any of the others that thinks we're just a bunch of stuck up jackasses.
This reminds me of a time I was playing an FPS that no ones knows about and someone said 'ta mere' (Your mom in French). It was a turning point- I finally knew that foreigners can be just as stupid as Americans sometimes.

I camped about 30 miles outside of Santa Fe once, that was really nice.

Actually turning off the power for an hour in the city's really does saves millions of dollars. Also Australia has been doing this sort of thing for a while now, Americans can't live 5 mins without power let alone 60 mins.

It's sorta stupid because the power plants are still running anyway.

The most you'll be doing is shaving off a little of your bill and bragging rights.

If you turn off your power for an hour, you will undo the decades of global warming, end wars, unite the world, and usher in the second coming! w00t

im gonna do it ill just read for an hour

Seeing space debris burn up in the atmosphere is pretty surreal.

Talkin bout Meteors?

Our city did this last year.
We all went downtown to see the skyline go dark.  Alot of the buildings failed to do this for an hour.  Some were still on :/
It is nice to watch though

Our city did it unintentionally at 11:30PM a few new years eve's ago.
Yay, walking around on the street with no light.

What part of space debris did you find meteors?

A guy we were with was an astronomer and works for a company that maintains telescopes.

I dont know, I just thought a meteor was debris from outter space.

Whats your Major Ronin?

There is man-made debris in the Earth's orbit.

I changed my major to something I enjoy a lot more, Fine Arts.

Eh, Calc and Chem aren't my favorite subjects and I needed to take a lot of those if I wanted to get into a Bachelor's program on Maritime Engineering.

Tom

What about turning everything back on. Everyone turing on all there stuff at once would take up alot of power.
