Pliny:

So I'm about to make a kinda-big Lego order. Should I start with pneumatics by using the Lego Education Pneumatics pack or should I order individual parts? I'm also going to be starting with Power Functions, does anyone recommend getting the basic motor set as a start? Also, should I get another motor and the IR parts for an RC vehicle?

I don't know much about the pneumatic LEGO parts, but about the Power Functions I'd say yes. Get the motor set and another medium motor, plus the IR Receiver and Remote. If you can I'd suggest also getting a large motor along with all the other parts.
