Part of me fears the performance implication of this but the other part of me tells me to go all out.

Unfortunately it seems that model faces surpass 500 faces way too easily for a single studly brick so unless I spend time to manually optimize every face and/or lower the actual working grid a pack like this while functional would bear massive performance issues.
