No no no.  More subtle and relaxing and isn't just one color all around so you have no sense of direction.  but it kind of fades.

I would think a white slate would be nice. Kind of like Construct, but the ground slowly fades to gray in the distance as to give you a sense of where the ground stops and the sky begins.

or, a desert slate with Pyramids in the skybox so they are off in the distance and still keep's it's slate status.  THAT WOULD PWN!

I'm not sure if that's how the real world actually works but it would be a nice way to see where north is.

Slate Hyrule temple - like in Super smash Bros. Melee
Slate Desktop - It looks like a computer desktop  (preferable a Mac desktop) *
Slate sports - a sport theme one  (any sport im really saying)

You could just build above the water.

Well if your going to load something for say AMC City, its gonna be underwater.
And if your making a movie set on slate, then switch to stormy for the filming, to bad so sad there goes your work.

How about a slate, with a wood ground that fades to black in the distance, and the sky is black too. I think that would be cool.
