Try as I might, port forwarding is impossible.

what kind of internet do you have?
a router/modem makes me assume your using DSL.
in that case i wouldnt use another router at all, because the router/modem your net uses already should have ports for hardwire, and its own software for port forwarding.

Plus it did not let me pick both TCP or DHP

It can also be a broadband connection, assuming you have Comcast for cable TV and internet.
