| Tom:
But it is a small life raft. Its not some massive boat. Also, there should probably be some system where players can get there location. Should the need an item (like a GPS thing), or should they just be able to get there location anytime? |
| AGlass0fMilk:
What use would players have for a GPS? We should use the compass thing, but add some restrictions to it. Unless you want to give them a compass at the start. |

I tried to get people to say what they've got done, but except for the modelers they're being freaking top sekrit. Raft: Looks crazy cool. Problem is, what'll it do if someone spawns one at their base that isn't near water? Let em deal with it? Or will it slide across the ground :/ ? @Tom's last post: What do you mean, get there location? Teleporting? No. We're gonna use the compass mod, or some variation of it, though. Not GPS, though - just a good ol old-fashioned compass. "Not Enough to Do": You're missing the point of the mod. It's a sandbox. Once we finish scripting all the mechanics and modeling everything, it's the players that make it interesting. You don't just go walk until you're 20 minutes from the nearest blockhead and build a base, you build where you can interact with the other players. Still, though, we could spice it up a bit by having raiding be pretty much required for survival. On the topic of raiding: I think it's kind of unfair to have your resources stolen while you're offline, we should balance that. I had a few ideas: 1. When you leave the server, all your bricks have rendering turned off. This makes it so your base is still there, but no one can raid it. Problems include: A. A dedi is out of the question. If you got on at a time when noone else was on, the mod would be pretty lame. B. Running a base with multiple people would be harder. We could have some sort of GUI that states who's bricks were used to build your base, and when any of the people on that list are online, the base isn't hidden. Getting too complicated, though. 2. Only a percentage of your materials could be stolen. This would prevent you from being absolutely ruined, but still make you want to protect your materials. Maybe 25-50% could be stolen? The only way to find a balanced number will be lots of beta tests. On the topic of materials: Kalph, will you please tell me if you're working on them? If not Milk and Tom can get started. The guy that wanted to do decals, can't find the quote/author now: Sure, go ahead and make some! Probably make one first, to see if everyone likes it. Just fit the survival theme and you'll be on your way to lotsa decals for us. @Absolution: You could model a few different sized of safes, for material. Edit on the topic of plants as food: Sure, just not trees. Just small plants. This is a tundra setting. |
| Space Guy:
Allow the Raft to be pushed by clicking it. Then you can shove it to the nearest water body and use it. Raids and defences should be a common interaction between groups of players - co-ordination is necessary for attempting large-scale things like 'taking over' a base. Players should be encouraged not to kill each other when working together, but weapons should do large amounts of damage - "role play" scenarios where you could force someone out of their camp to steal from it would be fun. Perhaps killing a player could remove certain things they have placed like half of the material from safes or vehicles, which would mean that a non-violent but forceful takeover would be necessary for maximum success. Players should only be able to carry enough material to build a baseplate, a warmth brick and/or a safe. A safe would be where the majority of collected material could be kept. Perhaps have it possible to transfer material to a vehicle for travel - if the vehicle is destroyed, all material you have will be lost. Player - 100 Safe - 600 Small Vehicle e.g. Raft - 150 Transport Vehicle e.g. Jeep - 250 Anybody would be able to take material from safes, so protection for a camp would be necessary. |

Good ideas. Hadn't thought about vehicles as material transportation devices, but makes sense for sure. --- Quote from: Space Guy on July 15, 2009, 01:01:06 PM ---Anybody would be able to take material from safes, so protection for a camp would be necessary. --- End quote --- What kind of protection? Sure, guards, maybe even traps, but what if everyone that uses that base is offline? That's my problem. |
