Well the way they went back this time is different than the way they did it in Star Trek IV. Something to do with black holes rather than slingshoting around Jupiter.
Well the Kirk era enterprise went back in time at least 3 or four times during the series. Once was from a computer on a planet about to suffer a supernova, another they accidentally warped too close to a star, another they intentionally warped past the sun. and the fourth they traveled through a giant rock ring to fix Earth's history when Bones got all doped up on meds and went nuts. (which they could always use to correct the whole timeline when they eventually discover it again.) But this time I enjoyed because it showed a direct result as to what happens when you do go back in time and start messing with things. I've always been a sucker for alternate reality stories. The whole "what if" factor.
As far as my review goes. I went into the theater not hating it or anything, but being a trekkie, I was rather apprehensive about how a reboot would affect my love for a series I already enjoyed quite a bit. And shortly after the whole "see Kirk and Spock as kids" deal, I actually enjoyed the movie, the humor, the fact that they didn't over actionize it, kept in some "lul" moments (not lol) and Uhura scantily clad. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the ship itself, but after noting that it was most likely designed as it was due to an effect of the plot, I can live with it. I would go and see it again and not want to claw my eyes out.
