Is port forwarding dangerous?

I was wondering if port forwarding is dangerous.. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=35184

Go down in that post a little bit and you'll see iLOL's post.. would hosting a server be a stealth door, (I doubt it) a closed door, or an open door? Is it okay if I port forward without a firewall? I can't run Blockland with it on, but I can run virus and spyware on.. I was just wondering if somebody can or can't hack easily into servers? I didn't think so because there are like 100 servers on at a time and that would be an easy target.. Please help.
Chrono:
No, it's not dangerous.
It's only directing traffic.
SuperToxic:
Like Chrono said.
Port forwarding only directs traffic to your open Blockland program.
Whoever told you that it can give you spyware, viruses, .etc, is paranoid.
Sabbin:
I keep telling my dad that it's not dangerous.
He won't believe me. He says that it's like "Opening the back door to our computer"
and say that anyone can get in.

Tell your dad he's an idiot and doesn't know the difference between firewalls and forwards.
