I'm going to hide outside of it and hit any spider that comes near.

Pigs randomly spawn on my island :/
Wedge:
Pigs and sheep spawn in daylight. If I recall correctly they disappear at night unless you box them in some place full of torches.
So they can just spawn on your island, unlike monsters.
