Minecraft Megathread; yeah its update 1.12 big whoop what about it

Crafting seems pretty confusing to me. I understand how to craft a stuffload of crates, I haven't found a proper tutorial for crafting stuff other than crates. Can someone link me to a guide for basic crafting?
