Nether portal tossed me out in the middle of the ocean. I have a half of a heart left, empty stomach, some good stuff in my inventory. Gawd damn.

Damn I wish Minecraft was coded in something less stuffty than Java. I want epic view distance. :c

It's not really "goofing up," it's just the displacement of one block in the Nether being equal to sixteen blocks in the overworld. I find that building your portal underground tends to keep you from being spawned somewhere else, since there is no nearby space for you to spawn at when you exit the ther. That is, unless there is another cave nearby, in which case you're forgeted.

then again you can always dig up, what with 1.9 having the water and lava drip through.

well, i mean like the one time I had a nether portal like 15 chunks away from my town and I went in.
On my way ot, using the same portal it ended up creating another portal in the middle of the town.

Wasn't really a goof. I had made a second portal in the nether and it could've put me anywhere.
