WELL, can't say making these is very easy for someone who just joined a game... Searching around for the materials took a little while.

Special text coding works in books:

• §k - Random characters
• §l - Bold text
  
• §m - Striked text
  
• §n - Underlined text
  
• §o - Italic text
  
• §r - Resets any of the above so text after is normal

Why did it have to be some ass-backwards character that I have to go copy from my charmap or the internet whenever I want to use it

They could've used some random symbol combination like "@&" or something to prevent accidental formatting
