They could just add grassless dirt. Deserts don't always have sand.

According to news, "cherry trees" was a joke among staff over public channels. I haven't seen the actual conversation they had, but it sounds like that is not happening. Did they flesh out some logical reasoning to do it? Because it sounds doubtful at best.
