Minecraft 1.7.2 came out. Specifically 1.7.2 fixed the texture issues with blocks like stairs, slabs, etc. Now when they are adjacent to each other, the textures will align correctly. AKA for stone brick stairs adjacent to each other won't look like there's a spare square brick in them, they are now continuous.
However, expect a 1.7.3-1.7.4 or more. There are many, many bugs.
