Everyone was mostly freaking out because I got the cape before Minecon and it confused people.

They've had it planned to be able to toggle/choose capes (serverside) for a while now. I assume once everyone is on UUID system or somethin', they'll implement better user control. They definitely will once the community stuff (chat, inviting people to servers, etc.) is implemented.
