| Need help forwarding ports |

I want to start my own internet game and i need to forward my ports i have reviewed the help for the hopeless on forwarding ports but what i need to do is reset my router and know about the button that resets it but i need to know what happens if i reset it will it screw up my internet connection or my computer and if it doesnt do i need to reconfigure anything????????
