Computers can go die

So whenever I play any full screen games on my computer, it minimizes them. Any way to fix this? (Note: Before people start saying "maximize it", when I maximize the games they just minimize themselves right back.)

you have all your settings at a higher resolution and switch monitor that uses a lower one?

How do I switch it to windowed mode without messing with settings in game? (Also, adding -w at the end of a shortcut doesn't work for some of them.)
And how do I fix the resolution?
