Want to make an animated picture

Some of you may know from the last topic I have been making youtube videos lately.  Well I have been making some so they loop and want to make it as my profile picture.  Does anyone know how to make it where I can put is as profile picture, or save it as a .gif?  I am using WMM and is willing to download another FREE program.  Yes, free.  I am more broke than a free black man.
