Look at other add-ons for guides, bases, an how to package an add-on correctly. Start with simple stuff like Weapon_Gun for held item, or something simpler like a hide command.

You can't change the core components but you can still add in your own components via add-ons right? Like new classes built from the ground up and whatnot? Like special projectile-like classes for example (laser beams, extended projectile classes with more functions/versatility)
