Animals use violence to establish dominance. If it is a wild turkey, then hitting it is all you can do to get it to not bug you if it thinks you're in it's turf. You don't have to kill the thing, just fan yourself out big, make plenty of aggressive noises and if that isn't enough, slap the bird. If someone owns that bird, then they're liable for a lawsuit for letting the birds roam free. I'm guessing wild since you said they flew.
