Author Topic: huge ass pointless rant on jails and rpgs  (Read 2105 times)

If someone attacks you enough you can attack them without being jailed.
Lies.

Yes these are both very interesting rants, I agree with both.
I remember being a robber in Adio's cityRP (was the stuff) I mindlessly clicked on people all day stealing small bits of money and then running away from the cops, then i sat in jail for about half an hour jumping at the walls.

CityRP should spread the fun around for all the classes and jobs, especially the shopkeepers i mean ffs thats just boring. It needs to be more complex or engaging!

On top of Wedge's suggestions, a notoriety system to give players bragging rights and to make it more challenging for bandits/policemen. Notoriously sinister bandits will have a harder time stealing from people as they'll be a bit more on their guard if they see them, and notoriously good policemen will be noticed by bandits as being a sharp, tough motherforgeter they blatantly shouldn't mess around with and it would make them think twice of committing something when a notorious policeman like that is around.

A simple yet well built system like this could make crime and policing in RPGs rather interesting for everyone. It would also be a good idea to keep Karma or good/bad stuff out of the equation, that way you could have notorious Robin-Hood like characters running around stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, as well as Bad cops.

This will be tough on the policeman since it will become more and more difficult to stop crime without being a mastermind himself.

Sorry, edit in that quote at the end of the first paragraph:

"This will be tough on the policeman since it will become more and more difficult to stop crime without being a mastermind himself."

As an extension on this, I think it would be cool if people could rate you on some number of virtues, kind of like in Gmod. People could rate you ill-tempered, good natured, helpful, intelligence, creative, bad businessman, fearsome, etc. Then you would get a suffix appended to your name if you had a certain combination or a surplus in any particular category. A high fearsome rating would result in "Wedge the Barbarian," intelligence might result in "Wedge the Genius," a bad buisnessman might be "Wedge the Cheapskate." Good natured and helpful might get you "Wedge the Kind," creative and intelligent might get you "Wedge the Enlightened," ill-tempered and fearsome could result in "Wedge the Terrible."

I have no idea where these would be displayed, I can't think of any place convenient. There would either have to be some kind of incentive to rate people or some kind of way to automatically acquire certain ratings. One thing I noticed while playing gmod is that people don't rate each other a whole lot, except the occasional naughty rating for people spamming up the server.

But I don't want to take away from the RPG bashing by filling the topic with suggestions.

I'm sure that if clever, talented programmers came together to make a roleplaying gamemode and actually put thought into each gameplay mechanic instead of "oh you did bad stuff cya at jail" then it would be totally and completely awesome.

Maybe someone should try that sometime.

Agreed.
Wait, what about Age of Time and its jail system?

Lol'd

I agree with this post 100%.

I agree to some extent.  Crimes like murder should result in a jailing, but petty theft should be a fine or a lawsuit or some stuff.  However, some RPs include jobs where you mine for resources to sell, which can be really loving boring, anyway, but it's a break.  I tend to be a shopkeeper or an item-capable job so I can kill criminals for their stolen cash.  It's a good way to have fun and not get jailed, since killing crims is not a felony in the better RPs.

This is why Ibans new city rpg is funner,

If you escape the prison lot
You escape from jail :D
Then cops chase you
Good times, running down the sewer
Or sneaking out the door
Or climbing the jail wall
