oh my GAWD

the only real difference i found when i switched to 7, was compatibility mode ACTUALLY worked.
if things are to old or just plain not updated drivers and such for vista, it was an issue running on vista.
however 7 (same loving thing as vista pretty much) you can set things to run in any OS compatibility mode and it WILL ALWAYS WORK.

other then this, the only real difference on the looks and function from the desktop is i love to pin folders and other things to the taskbar.

and about the "uses less ram" thing, you WANT your computer to use as close to 80% ram at ANY time if its available. i dont get how you kids can have 4-8 gigs of ram then get angry if more then 1g is being used...

i think they only changed the algorithms n such for how the memory is shared and moved, when the active window changes or is in full screen modes.

I dunno if I remember correctly, but your computer wasn't designed to run Vista.
It says designed for windows vista right in front of me

Then I don't remember correctly, lol.

Go get at least 2 gig of ram. Only then can your PC get to at least good performance.
:D
I have amazing performance on 512mb of RAM on my Ubuntu.  No gaming, but I DO have an Xbox 360 in my room...

I used Vista for a long time. I loved it, its awesome. But for a bit I used 7, and its worth the switch. The taskbar is worth it.

also: NETWORKING. Its a god at this. if you share folders and stuff, get it. Huge improvement

Now I use Ubuntu :D

Both of them were just horrible OSs that Microsoft pulled out of their ass, but I'd rather stick with Vista. Vista doesn't have an oversized taskbar, Vista isn't as laggy as Windows 7, Vista doesn't have as much default programs, Vista isn't as complicated, and Vista is more user-friendly.

Use XP or 2000 instead. They both pwn Windows Vista and 7 by a mile. Or, use Linux (specifically Ubuntu), it pwns all of them.

You should just go back to using a CLI, clearly you can't handle improvements nor any kind of technical understanding.

Actually, I'd prefer graphical OSs over command-lines.
No technical understanding? It needs tons of RAM to run without being slow, it would take up nearly half of my laptop's HD space before you would have enough space to save anything on it while running it. That's not really the whole point, though. I don't want to use a computer that gets too confusing after 5 minutes of use. If Windows' future depends on as much complication and user un-friendly features as CLIs did, then Vista and everything after that can suck it.

Are you really telling me to use incredibly outdated, obsolete, and inferior software? If so, get that stick out of your ass.

Also, Vista is not a stuffty operating system Microsoft pulled out of their ass. It had been 6? years since the release of XP, and so it was time for an improvement. Seven was pretty much a response to the bad publicity Vista (wrongfully) recieved.

Cry some more with your stuffty hardware. That's the problem, not the new software.

1.Vista was OK. I just didn't like the compatibility
2.The new Windows 7 taskbar looks pretty damn lovey
3.Vista eats ram like black people eat watermelons. What are you on?
4.Windows 7 looks damn simple
5.Vista is TOO user friendly. I don't like pop-ups every 5 seconds saying ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO RUN THIS?!?!??!
6.XP was good I admit that but it was time for a change, like Rex said.
7.And I already have Ubuntu on a laptop made for 95. Ubuntu isn't enough to overwrite my gaming computer's OS though.

It uses less than a GB of memory when idle, and that can lessened by disabling certain features like superfetch. Memory is dirt cheap now anyway. Maybe you need an upgrade?

I've never found Vista that confusing. Sure, some of the networking options are buried under a couple of GUIs but generally it is built similarly to XP. If you are really having that much trouble with it, perhaps you should buy the Dummies guide to it?

Okay, so your hardware must be stuffty too since I met the requirements, just like you.  :cookieMonster:

What the forget?
Rex has a lovey computer. You have a loving laptop. Major loving difference there.
