This isn't a new concept. I've seen other forums with this ability since 2004.

I'm sure it's just something he didn't bother disabling, considering as I hear, signatures were enabled when the forums came back online.

Some of the things I used to like are now stupid.
On all SMF forums, by default, signatures are displayed in posts.

I'm glad they allow you to disable displaying signatures as a user on most/all forums.
