I'm not entirely sure which sort of school it is in Britain.

Around 12 or 13.

That's what happened on my first day of high school.
They had a home room on the schedule and i didn't know that your homeroom was actually your 3rd hour.
So i went into the gym class with a bunch of seniors and i was like wtf.

so you am liek, 11 or 12?

also im going to some awesome thingy for 8th graders, we get to show all the little 6th graders around...but since i have an aura of hatred, nobody will ask me for directions.
Duckmeister:
My first day of middle school was spent carrying around a ton of unnecessary books because my locker just had to be the only one that didn't work properly.

Then, the teachers didn't let anyone actually use their lockers anyways, so it was all for nothing.  You could put your books in a locker, but then when you actually went to the class you needed them for the teacher wouldn't let you go to your locker and get them.  You had to carry around so many books in the morning, and then carry around so many books after lunch, as lunch was the only safe time to open your locker.  You had to plan which books you had to carry around for each half of the day.

Middle school was ruined for me by extraordinarily stupid teachers, bratty kids, and unjust punishment.  It's what made me hate private school as much as I hate public school.
