Making a game engine?
<< < (2/6) > >>
Skele:
I've tried to make one. It definately isn't a task you just jump into like I did. Needs planning and a lot of knowledge. Others helping you would be good to. If you want to make something, I'd just use a pre-made engine.

I got as far as rendering 2D images onto the screen, and having the ability to section an image and then applying them as a grid. I was going to make a tile based 2D game engine.

I've made a basic platforming game engine with an SDK program in GML

Someone should make an example engine that contains files you can view that help you get started making your own. I know I am not able to do this but I am still interested for when/if I ever learn how.
Bisjac:
in most all cases, a game engine isn't developed for a specific 1 game. so time and quality is an issue. and companies hire on a group of guys to put one together, so they can license it out.
i guess similar to making a game, a 1 man project will give you just that quality lol
Godik7:
Making one would take years if you think about all the code and rendering things and blah. Must be quiet a challenge if you don't know a lot of C++ or whatever you're using to make it.

I would pay to see Badspot make one. :)
