I know it's backward and forward compatible, but that's not the issue. A card meant for a 2.0 slot will be bottlenecked by a 1.0 slot. |

It will be a good idea to upgrade your motherboard at some point in the future, because you won't get your money's worth out of a new card. |

If he is buying a card for under $130, he probably wont be getting a card which needs more PCI-e bandwidth then his motherboard can supply, so in his case it shouldn't be a problem. |
