Author Topic: forget you and your home schooling. = Kids with issues.  (Read 17006 times)

I'm going to take that as a compliment and not a fit of psychotic loveuality.

Does this mean you not like Ace D:

Also, I only know two home schooled people with "issues"

I agree, it limits social interaction...

You know nothing I have like over thirty good friends and know about fifty that home school just within my county..

also home schooling is laid back you might do some of your school, go over to a friends house and finish school later
It's not a sitdown and do your school all at once kind of deal and can be "more enjoyable then any other way" quote from my friend that once went to school

Like today I did all my school this morning before lunch and now have been on the computer playing games.

Didn't feel like reading 5 pages, but... all the homeschooled kids I know are friendless, nerdy, and really annoying.

Im home/computer schooled because im in UK

I want to be home schooled seeing as I moved and the state I am in is a year behind in all the classes.

I quite disagree, I go to public school and their gifted program is incredible.

Oh, man, you are incredibly lucky. You have no idea just how lucky you are. My school's gifted program (at least at Jr. School) pretty much existed because of me and my parents literally having to complain and bother them to implement one. I am assuming that the Middle School (the middle, jr, and senior (highschool) schools are all the same school, even though the Jr. School has it's own (smaller) campus.) had some form of gifted program before, however I'm sure it wasn't as good as it is now, and believe me, it's stuffty now. We get our normal gifted thingy twice in a ten day cycle, and once it's two periods out of 8 and the other time it's 1 period out of 8. I'm basing this off of last year so there may be some change. There's also a Math Enrichment program which is a little more often, however it's stuff because all we do is miscellaneous "Hey, look at this cool fact" things, instead of what I want to do, which is: "Hey, Nathan, here's the grade 8/9 program, and here's a pack of worksheets for you, feel free to come to me if you have any trouble with it." We've already pushed them really hard so I don't really want my parents to ask for more but if the school year starts and we're doing unrelated crap every two weeks I'm getting a complaint. Also, our gifted class is hardly for gifted students anymore, it's gotten large enough to contain anyone who can complete their work at a slightly faster than average speed. As a genius level gifted child this is not bragging, it's fact, it annoys me that some dude who I wouldn't even consider smart is now joining our gifted group to further hinder any advanced education I may get a chance to recieve. It started out as me, then it was three students. I consider this reasonable as both were people I considered extremely intelligent. Then it grew to four, this was still reasonable. At the time of middle school we were at nine. Sorry, you're not smart, how the hell did you get in here? We also have an astrophysics group. It's always lead by someone who's maybe 20 at most, or at least comes across like it. This teenager commands no respect and isn't even a teacher, it's like one of you trying to teach a group of 12 year olds a reasonably advanced concept. You would fail. Nobody really pays attention during these groups, it's like a tradition and should the pay they're getting go down a smidgen I guarantee it would stop. I should also say that I go to a fairly small private school. In conclusion, I can make the assumption based on my experiences and the experiences of others that gifted education in general sucks ass.

Wow, that turned out to be longer than I expected. :/

Then tell me without reference Mr. Genius, what is 8 >> 2?
Bla bla, all these programs are bullstuff and I feel like their talking to me like some stupid kid that doesn't know what the hell their being taught.

I'm not going to even pretend that I know what the answer to your question is. I based that comment purely on IQ, which is a essentially a measurement of a person's ability to acquire knowledge, not how much knowledge said person actually has. I'm not even claiming that IQ is a good way of measuring intelligence. It isn't, as it is not the full story of a person's intellect. Thank you for your question though, as it served to further emphasize the point that gifted education is lacking. I'd know the answer to your question if any teacher or school program was willing to take the time to teach me whatever concept that is.

All of you posting seem to not be in High School. Middle school and Primary School are important with teaching you basic things, but you are not meant to be that challenged, that is High School. High School is where you can shine. Good luck understanding physics alone, or APUSH, or calculus. Look at it this way, some schools are far better than others.

I live in Massachusetts, and our schools are great. For science, I've taken Bio, Accelerated Chemistry, Physics and am taking AP Physics. I've seen other places do physical science, bio, chem, then some other classes. Math also varies. I've taken Algerbra II/Geo, Accelerated Geo, Pre-Calc, and now AB AP Calculus. In other schools its Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Trig.  So for all of you generalizing, wait till High School.

I am in High School. Home schooling is still the far better option to anything. You're not learning "alone". You have a tutor.

What makes your tutor better than a teacher? How often do you see her/him? Are you rich? Can you contact them? How many hours are they there? Also, inform me on the classes you are taking.

You haven't been to a classroom; thus, you cannot be sure. Teachers are like scratch tickets, sometimes you've won, others, you've lost.

Most of the people relying on social interaction instead of intelligence are mostly Anime watchers, No offense though.
