what pisses me off about family computers, is the family is always stupid and creates different windows login users. and they switch between them not logging out of the one before, so its a loving lag mess of crap running at once.

why cant multiple people learn to share the 1 admin user? and just each make a folder with your name on the desktop for your crap?
what the hell settings are they needing so different that they cant share a hard drive?

The last time our computer got fixed the guy disabled the Switch User function, haha

Fine do what I do and ride a bike 5miles.
life -> get("JOB");
life -> get("CAR");

Well ask anyway, You never know what they might say.

The thing is if we had a family computer, it'd be forgeted up.

Brother would be a dumbass and install tons of stuff that is stupid and will break the computer.
Mother would be a dumbass too and install tons of work stuff that is stupid and will incredibly slow down the computer, and then she'd blame it on "XP being stupid" and run off with a Mac.
Dad would, well, he wouldn't do much. He'd install visual studio or some stuff and code.
I would install games.

Not to mention we our own computers half the day.

So to solve your problem, tell your parents that a family computer wouldn't work because all of you would need it at the same time, plus what they're saying is loving ridiculous. If its a decent laptop and its $400, why the forget not, seriously. Your parents are really selfish or just stupid.

Goddamn, I couldn't agree more. Finally, just what I needed, someone who actually understands me and agrees with my hatred of this total bullstuff. I think I will sy that to them, thank you so much man.

EDIT: and thank you to everyone else, I've lightened up quite a bit. These are all great ideas, if only my parents could see this thread.

I wonder how that will go...

Not very well, I can already tell you. I'm probably not gonna say that stuff to 'em, rather just go out and buy the stupid thing myself.

Well if you get it they can't take it away from you because its yours, You bought it with your own money they can't do a thing about it so I would get it .

See, that's the thing. My parents have done that before with the iPod Touch I'm currently using to post. They took it for no apparent reason, and whenever I asked them for it back, they would either conviniently change the subject or just plain ignore me. After getting tired of me nagging them for it back, they finally told me why they took it, reason being "We wanted to make sure you didn't have anything objectional on this." Good thing I have a passcode lock on it. And I stuff you not, that is verbatim what they said.

Anyway, even after telling me why they took it in the first place, they still didn't give it back to me. So, I called the police. As the officer was pulling up outside our house, my parents freaked and gave it back to me. The officer came up the stairs, knocked, I opened the door, and he asked "Anything wrong here?" and I said "Nope, sorry, false alarm."

So they'll take the damn laptop if they find out I have it.

Then just fake call the police every time, and they'll give it back. Every time.

Obviously your parents are stupid and don't discipline you, but whenever you actually do something right or something just (LIKE GETTING SOMETHING FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY) they yell at you.

If you called the cops on me for an ipod touch, I'm sorry, but I'd smack you and tell the officer everything's fine.
But I'd let you buy the laptop. I wouldn't even take the ipod in the first place lol.

I'd get fined and possibly temporarily jailed for doing that.

Double toast, but they do discipline me, a little too much, in fact. They always ruin my fun. They barely ever let me hang out with my good friends, and when they do, it's only for like an hour or two.

My parents wouldn't even THINK of buying me something of that price, especially my mom, i have to save my birthday/christmas money for a year or 2 and buy something like that myself.

My mom has this really, really nice intel mac, and guess what she uses it for, a place called pogo, where you play cheap games like solitaire, and bingo. and my mom throws us a crap computer that use to belong to our cousin, and that we don't even know the password to, and which with we are lucky to find a game that runs even half decent on this piece of stuff!
