Are they noticably slower to the point where you don't like the program because it is slow? Also, should I just try to learn C++ instead of Python?

You can make a good game with python and it won't be slow. If you want to make a 3d game with intensive effects, c++ might be better. You won't be able to make intense 3d games for awhile is my guess so python is alright to stick with. I prefer the style c++ has over python, but if trader sees this, his opinion will differ.
