Well no stuff. Everyone's roleplaying at these festivals, that's the point. You don't have to participate in the roleplaying to be a part of it though. I went in all my modern clothes and walked around like that instead.
Stop posting here. You have no interest in it, you've never been to one, and you're obviously not open to the idea.

Also, a Barbarian was running the leather armor store.

Sounds like someone's pretending to be an internet tough guy because he was beat up in grade school for l.a.r.p.

I still go to Renaissance festivals and I enjoy getting a little dressed up, although I love those places because it gives women fiendishly great cleavage. Talk about a breast man's paradise. Hold on, drooling now...okay, anyways, back to the point, my favorite feature is the tomatoe justice booth. A guy sticks his face through a hole, insults the stuff out of people and pisses them off to heave rotten tomatoes at him. I think one of the best insults I ever heard one guy say was "Hey buddy, that's a nice belt....When's the last time you've SEEN it?" boy did that ever piss off the guy. I love it especially for their lack of PC atmosphere.
